Hepatitis B Inflection Follow-up Profile (HH012W)
Patients who have previously had hepatitis are advised to undergo annual tests for liver function and liver cancer markers. Regular check-ups help detect any worsening of hepatitis at an early stage, significantly reducing the risk of developing cirrhosis and liver cancer.
Among various types of hepatitis, hepatitis B is the most common in Hong Kong and among Chinese populations. According to the 2020-2022 Population Health Survey and relevant reports from the Department of Health, approximately 5.6% of the Hong Kong population—about 410,000 people—carry the hepatitis B virus. Chronic hepatitis B is a lifelong infection; patients may remain symptom-free for decades until the liver becomes severely damaged. About 15% to 40% of chronic hepatitis B patients who do not receive treatment may eventually develop life-threatening liver diseases, such as cirrhosis and liver cancer.
