What does the MMR vaccine protect against?
The MMR vaccine effectively prevents measles, mumps, and rubella.
Who is vaccination recommended for?
Healthy individuals who receive the measles vaccine as recommended generally receive long-term, even lifelong protection. According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States, the effectiveness of one dose of the MMR combination vaccine in preventing measles is approximately 93%, and this increases to 97% with two doses. Those who have received only one dose have partial immunity and may consider receiving a booster dose if necessary. Individuals with concerns may also consider getting a measles antibody test.
