What is Pneumonia?

Pneumonia is the second leading cause of death in Hong Kong. Streptococcus pneumoniae can cause pneumonia and severe illnesses such as meningitis, otitis media, sepsis, and even death. It is commonly found in the upper respiratory tract and is transmitted through droplets or secretions.

There are over 90 serotypes of pneumococci, and vaccination is one of the effective methods to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease.

What serotypes can Pneumococcal 20‑valent Vaccine protect from?
The Pneumococcal 20‑valent Vaccine not only includes the original 13 serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, 23F) but also adds 7 new serotypes associated with invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), high mortality rates, and antibiotic resistance (8, 10A, 11A, 12F, 15B, 22F, 33F) to provide more comprehensive protection.

Which high-risk groups is vaccination recommended for?
• Individuals aged 50 and above
• Individuals with chronic lung disease
• Individuals with cardiovascular disease
• Diabetic patients
• Smokers

Consists of Active immunisation for the prevention of pneumococcal disease caused by Streptococcus
pneumoniae serotypes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 8, 9V, 10A, 11A, 12F, 14, 15B, 18C, 19A, 19F,
2F, 23F, and 33F in adults 18 years of age and older.

Age: Individuals aged 18 years old or above: 1 dose

According to the vaccination recommendations for high-risk adults from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • Individuals aged 18 and above who have never received a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine may receive one dose of the Pneumococcal 20‑valent vaccine.
  • Individuals who have received the Pneumococcal 15‑valent Conjugate Vaccine are recommended to receive the Pneumococcal 23‑valent vaccine.
  • Individuals who have received the 13-valent Conjugate Vaccine are advised to consult with their doctor regarding the next vaccination.

Not applicable to:

  • People who have a history of severe allergic reaction to any of the vaccine component or Pneumovax 23 in the past
  • Individuals who are currently experiencing a fever

    • 【Appointment Process】Upon successful payment confirmation, please WhatsApp your order number and the recipient's full name to 6010 4853 (text messages only) (Office Hours: Monday to Saturday; 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM). Human Health will confirm with you via WhatsApp within 2 working days during office hours.
    • Individuals with allergic reactions to any vaccine ingredients are not suitable for injection.
    •  If you have a fever or are currently taking antibiotics on the day of vaccination, it is recommended to postpone the injection.
    • Individuals undergoing medical treatments (such as chemotherapy, steroids, etc.) should consult a doctor for guidance before receiving the vaccine.
    •  If you are taking medication but are unsure whether you can receive the vaccine, it is advised to consult a doctor first or bring your medication for the medical staff to check on the day of injection before deciding suitability.
    • This plan requires an assessment by medical personnel to determine suitability. If evaluated as unsuitable for vaccination, an assessment fee of HKD 350 will apply, and the remaining balance can be refunded or exchanged.
