*The 2025/26 Quadrivalent Influenza Vaccine is now available.  After the customer places the order, customer service will contact clients to schedule appointments.

*If you are an eligible subsidized person, after the new seasonal flu vaccination program is launched, you can go to any Human Health Medical Centre branch to get the quadrivalent flu vaccine for free. 

What is Influenza?

  • Highly contagious disease caused by influenza viruses.
  • Viruses classified as Type A, B, C; Type A most common.
  • Common Hong Kong Type A strains: H1N1 and H3N2.
  • Viruses mutate; vaccines updated regularly.
  • Peak seasons in Hong Kong: Jan-Mar and Jul-Aug.

Transmission & Symptoms

  • Acute respiratory illness, mainly via air/droplets.
  • Spreads easily in crowded indoor spaces.
  • Also via direct contact with patient's secretions.
  • Symptoms: fever, headache, muscle pain, runny nose, cough, sore throat, fatigue.
  • Mild cases resolve in 2-7 days.

High-Risk Groups

  • Elderly and immunocompromised prone to severe complications.
  • May lead to bronchitis, pneumonia, even death.

Importance of Flu Vaccination

  • Effective method to prevent flu and reduce complications.
  • Priority groups: chronic patients, 65+ elderly, children 6 months+, healthcare workers.

When to Get Vaccinated?

  • Hong Kong flu peaks: Jan-Mar annually.
  • Recommended before peak season.
  • Antibodies develop ~2 weeks post-vaccination.

Flu vaccines are prepared according to the recommendations of the World Health Organization, based on the influenza strains that are circulating in the community each year.

Individuals aged 6 months or above

  • Individuals 6 months - 8 years old: 2 doses and recommended to have 2 vaccines at least 4 weeks apart
  • Individuals 6 months - 8 years old (Vaccinated before):Single-dose
  • Individuals ≥9 years old: Single-dose

Not applicable to:

-Known history of severe allergy to any component of the vaccine, neomycin, formaldehyde, gentamycin sulphate and sodium deoxycholate
-Serious allergic reaction to chicken eggs
-Blood disorder e.g. thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorder
-Since the causal relationship between receiving the influenza vaccine and the recurrence of Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is not yet clear, persons who have previously had Guillain-Barré syndrome should consult a doctor before receiving the influenza vaccine
-People who have a moderate or severe illness with a fever
-Influenza vaccine is not approved for use in children less than 6 months of age

Post-Vaccination Precautions:

Some may experience within 1-2 days mild local reaction:

– soreness, redness, swelling and hardening at the injection site, or constitutional symptoms (low grade fever, headache, sweating, joint pain, bowel discomfort such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain; muscle pain and fatigue). Most reactions/symptoms will subside within 1-2 days without intervention.
-Serious adverse reaction is rare. If serious allergic reactions including urticaria, dizziness, swelling of the lips / tongue or difficult breathing occur, please consult the doctor immediately.

      If you purchase vaccine service, please pay attention to the following vaccination guidelines:

      -After confirming that the customer has successfully paid and the injections have arrived, Human Health will contact customers within 2 business days. Customers can also call hotline at 3970 8888 for booking.
      -The vaccine must be administered by April 30, 2026
      -Customer is not recommended for the injection if he/she is allergic to any component of the vaccine.
      -If customer has a fever or are taking antibiotics on the day of injection, it is recommended to delay the injection.
      -This service is not applicable for Vaccination Subsidy Scheme (VSS). Eligible persons of VSS can receive Flu vaccine free of charge at Human Health Medical Centres directly after the new seasonal flu vaccination program is launched.
      -If customer has a fever or are taking antibiotics on the day of injection, it is recommended to delay the injection.
      -If customer is pregnant or breastfeeding, have a weakened immune system, and are receiving medications (such as chemotherapy, steroids, etc.), he/she should consult doctor first and accept injections under guidance.
      -People who are taking drugs but not sure whether it is appropriate to accept the vaccine, it is recommended to consult the doctor or bring the relevant drugs to the health professionals for examination on the day of injection before deciding whether it is suitable for injection.

      •A consultation fee of HK$350 will be deducted if customer is not suitable for the vaccine injection and the balance can be arranged for an exchange or refund
