The brain is the most important organ in the human body, responsible for regulating the functions of various parts of the body. If problems occur, such as a stroke or cognitive impairment, they can have a significant impact on the patient, including difficulties in daily self-care, a heavy economic burden, and partial loss of bodily functions.
The ARIA technology developed by The Chinese University of Hong Kong captures retinal images using a fundus camera. This technology has obtained patents in the United States, China, and Taiwan. It employs artificial intelligence to analyze the morphology and condition of retinal blood vessels, allowing for a safe and rapid assessment of the risk of stroke and cognitive impairment. This method is simple, quick, and highly accurate, enabling early detection and control of risk factors, including dietary management, exercise, and medication treatment, which can effectively prevent the occurrence of strokes. Additionally, the cognitive impairment risk screening effectively assesses the risk of dementia associated with white matter hyperintensities (ARWMH), thereby inferring the level of cognitive impairment risk. Early prevention, improvement, and delay of disease progression can help reduce the impact of the condition on patients.
